Verifactu for car wash owners in Spain: what it is, the real dates, and how to prepare

If you own or run a car wash tunnel in Spain, you have probably heard the word Verifactu somewhere in the last few months — and there is a good chance nobody has explained clearly what it actually means for your business, or when it applies to you. Here it is, with the real dates, no scare tactics.

What Verifactu actually is, in one sentence

Verifactu is the system through which Spain's tax agency (the AEAT) will require the invoicing software you use to generate every invoice with a chained hash that cannot be altered without it showing, plus a QR verification code. The goal is to shut down “double accounting” software that lets a business quietly delete or edit sales after the fact.

When does it become mandatory? The real dates

This is where most of the confusion comes from, because the timeline has already shifted once. The original date was 2026; the government pushed it back by a year. The current calendar is:

  • 1 January 2027 — mandatory for companies subject to Corporate Tax (Impuesto sobre Sociedades).
  • 1 July 2027 — mandatory for self-employed owners (autónomos) and everyone else.

So does 2026 not matter at all?

It still matters, even though nothing is mandatory yet: it's the year you want the switch already made — or well underway — instead of scrambling in the final quarter before 2027. If your tunnel still runs on loose paper tickets, a spreadsheet rebuilt by hand at month-end, or invoicing software you are not sure will comply, this is the moment to sort it out calmly, before there is a deadline breathing down your neck.

Why a car wash tunnel has a specific blind spot here

Most businesses think of Verifactu as purely “an invoicing software problem.” A car wash tunnel has an extra layer of complexity that a lot of owners overlook:

  • Subscribers pay a recurring charge, not a one-off invoice — that automatic charge still has to be invoiced correctly every single month, without anyone having to remember to generate it by hand.
  • Till takings from day-to-day traffic (cash, card, tablet) need to sit in the same system as subscriptions — run two separate programs for the two, and you end up with two separate invoicing trails, which is exactly what Verifactu is designed to catch.
  • Prepaid wash bundles create one moment where money changes hands and another where the wash is actually used — both need to be reflected correctly for your books to match what was really washed.

What to do now, without waiting for 2027

You don't need to overhaul everything overnight. The sensible approach in 2026 is to:

  • Check whether your current invoicing software (if you have one) has already announced its Verifactu update.
  • If you're still on loose tickets or a spreadsheet rebuilt by hand at month-end, start centralising payments now — subscribers, till and prepaid bundles in one place — so the move to a Verifactu-ready system is a switch you flip, not a months-long data migration.
  • Don't wait for the last quarter of 2026: demand for compliant software will spike the closer the deadline gets.

How Namicar handles this

Namicar's Complete plan already invoices with a chained hash and AEAT verification QR code from day one — subscribers, till and prepaid bundles all run through the same account, so when Verifactu becomes mandatory you won't have to change a thing, because it was already set up that way.

Getting invoicing right is only one side of running a tunnel profitably in Spain — the other is knowing what a well-run tunnel actually earns once product, water and staff are accounted for.
